All About Domaining

Domaining seems like a strange word, but it applies to buying, developing, and monetizing domain names and then selling them. This should be distinguished from cybersquatting, as domaining involves generic domain names, rather than trying to take advantage of brand name domains.

Before you can become a domainer, you must know how to purchase a good domain name. A good domain name usually gives you an idea of what the site is about. You don't have to buy your domain name from your content provider or you ISP. You can do it yourself with very few or no fees. Check on the availability of the name you want to register. You can do that at InterNIC. If your chosen name is available, you can go to their registrar directory and fill in your information. Once you have filled out all the information for NIC, they will send you the form, but you can reply by email. InterNIC charges $70.00 to register, which is for two years of maintenance.

You can invest in good, money making domain names. This is considered similar to buying and selling real estate. If you keep your eyes and ears open to the trends of the times and act quickly to name your domain after this trend, you not only will have a good name, but one you can sell in the near future. While you need to steer clear of trademarks, you can use a trademark as part of your domain name. Trademarks are protected, but a domain name is not the same thing as a trademark.
